THE TASTY BITS THIS WEEK
Special Feature Story of the Week
-Timbers Beat the Chicago Fire in another preseason game on Wednesday. The 2-0 result is slightly skewed because the teams agreed t play 120 minutes to allow for more trialists’ to show their stuff. Goals by Eric Alexander and Perlaza with both assists by then trialist Frank Songo’o. It was announced Thursday the Songo’o is a permanent part of this squad. Next the team heads back to Portland to get ready to host a mini tournament starting February 27th.
-Captain Jack Jewsbury, who after 10 years in the MLS know preseason games are not the nail to hang the season on, feels the signs are good for this Team. 6 different players have scored in the 4 games so far.
-Kris Boyd from Scotland Rangers, has had his Visa Approved and should be in Portland NEXT WEEK! Go Timbers!
Each week I check in with Marshall Kirkpatrick for the latest in Tech news and tweets. Whether he is tirelessly building his new project Plexus Engine or continuing his work with Read Write Web, Marshall always has his finger on the crystal ball of whats new in the world of technology. This week I will show you to three things that Marshall has shown me that I think are totally awesome.
-Great FREE sports app call Yahoo Sportacular! This app has everything this sports fan needs. College and Profestional, Womens and Men, Football, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey and even Golf and Tennis. This is from the Yahoo Website “Get free alerts of your favorite sporting events, keeping you up to date on close games. View reminders and updates instantly, including starting times, scoring updates, innings or period, and final results for any game you choose. Track your favorite players and fantasy teams by creating custom groups.” The updates are nearly synced to live sports as I watch it. It is usually only about a minute behind. Want to know how many assists Gerald Wallace of the Blazers has? Just look under stats. It will list the current game, and his seasonal average.
-Next week we are going to talk about an Article Written by Marshall for RCR Wireless about what Mobile Technology may look like from the crystal balls of Network giant Cisco Systems, Inc.
SPECIAL SUPPORTLAND TIDBIT
In February, it is easy to let the rain-drain rust your ambitions and slow down your metabolisms…Well, I am going to offer a few fun solutions to think about that ANYONE can work their way up to and participate in. AND FOR A GOOD CAUSE.
-AIDS/LifeCycle is a fully supported, 7-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Every year, this landmark ride through beautiful California delivers a life-changing experience for thousands of participants from all backgrounds and fitness levels united by a common desire to do something heroic. Whether you’re considering your first ride or are a seasoned veteran, we want you with us on AIDS/LifeCycle 11. You belong here. My childhood friend Tammy has been doing this for a few years and I thinks its AWESOME! The event starts on June 7th I will be donating to her efforts this year. Just thinking about spinning down roads in California along that coast hwy in the sunny summer sunshine helps melt the frosty morning cold in Wintertime.
-Want something easier? Think about doing the 33rd annual Portland Rose Festival Starlight Run?!?! It is NOT a 7 day right down the coast of California, but a mere 3.1 miles jaunt through the streets of Portland on Saturday June 2nd at 7:45 pm! NO EARLY RISING for this one. Wear a costume, do it with a team, walk the whole way! It doesn’t matter, this event is all about having fun and the organizers are anticipating over 4000 participants this year. My wife and some friends are going to Join a team with our local watering hole! This will be our first Run Together! I am not sure if this event has an official mission to sponsor with with entry fee, but their continued partnership with SOLV is always a winner for Oregon. Take some exercise and mix in some goals during these dreary wet weeks and you have one Healthy Portland Scramble!
